The past few weeks have seen an increase in the profanation of holy
images, both of Our Lord Jesus and Our Lady, in particular the Sacred
Heart and Our Lady of Guadalupe.
I refuse to display these sacrileges on our web site, but I will
briefly describe the two most offensive for the year ending December,
2006:
A traditional, popular image of the Sacred Heart, one that we use in
the Two Hearts directory, was altered by one graphic designer who must
think himself most clever: the precious Head of this beloved image was
removed and the face of the deceased rock singer, Elvis Presley was
superimposed, so that Elvis is now the Sacred Heart! More than one web
site features this atrocity.
Our Lady of Guadalupe's image was ravaged in the following manner: the
full center, from the neck to the bottom where the serpent would
normally be was removed and a young woman in bikini had replaced the
Maternal beauty of Our Queen and the Mother of God!
One of the most appalling aspects was that these affronts to Heaven
were found by our search engine while doing research on other matters,
that is, with our security on, which is supposed to be
family-friendly----we only use search engines that have this feature,
and moreover, the text we employed for our narrow field of research
only included Catholic devotional terms! There were other desecrations,
some along the same line, but you get the idea, I am sure.
So I guess even with the highest security promises and having some
skill in internet search, one is not immune to the plague of sacrilege.
I cannot begin to imagine what would have popped up if we were looking
for such sites!!!!
Thus we offer the above image of the Miraculous Medal from South
America, also altered
by adding
flowers and stars. If one wants to, one can "bring flowers" to
sacred images, as to a shrine, it takes only moderate graphic
experience. The devil has no imagination when he inspires poor
benighted souls to use their God-given talents to dishonor the things
that belong to God!
Pray for these people on the Holy Rosary, every single day!
