Pope Leo XI was the great-nephew of Pope Leo X and a relative of the French Queen Marie de' Medici. He was already aged when elected and very ill. He died just ten days after taking the Chair of Peter. He is mainly known for his great friendship with St. Philip Neri who did much to influence Leo.
