The Immaculate Conception
ANTONIO DE PEREDA
c. 1660
Like his fellow Spaniard, Antonio de Pereda excels at depicting the
Immaculate Conception, especially since he has added two cherubs
crowning her in anticipation: from all eternity the Blessed Trinity,
which knows no time, the Eternal Present, in the moment of creating
this most beautiful and perfect of all creatures, the Mother of God,
she was the Queen of Heaven from the beginning.
