MURILLO MADONNA 6

Madonna & Child with St. Rosalia
MURILLO
1670

Saint Rosalia is the patron Saint of Palermo, Sicily and was invoked during the plague. She died in 1160  and is today considered a patron also for young girls who want to remain pure. Rosalia chose to live alone as a virgin in a cave to pray and make sacrifice for sinners. Her feast is September 4.

This is one of the sweetest of all of Murillo's paintings.
