The artist is considered the foremost master of the Renaissance in which the gandeur of the Church and its rich traditions and theology
were transferred to canvas and on which Catholicism seemed to have come
alive before one's eyes. Our copies of this piece show some
deterioration, cracks and grime in the background, which we did our
best to restore. Some of the coloring on the Child Jesus is irregular,
but this we left as you view it, since this seems to be from the artist
and not from time. We did apply a bit of chrome highlights to the
nimbus around Jesus, and the halo around His Mother: when we tried
drawing them in, following the faded, broken contours that were
visible, they just did not look presentable.
