Second Glorious Mystery:
The Ascension
During the days following His Resurrection, Jesus appeared frequently
to His disciples to comfort them and to prove that He had risen from
the dead. On the fortieth day after His Resurrection, Our Lord appeared
to His disciples for the last time. He gathered them together on Mount
Oliveto and commanded them to go out and preach His doctrine and to
Baptize those who would believe. He promised to be with them till the
end of the world. Then He raised His Hand and blessed them; and as He
was doing so, He gently rose upwards till He was hidden from their
sight by a cloud.
FRUIT OF THE MYSTERY: AN ARDENT DESIRE FOR HEAVEN
Jesus has prepared a place in Heaven for all those who follow in His
steps. Heaven is our eternal Home where we can be for ever with God.
Whenever we suffer in this "Valley of Tears", we must recall our
eternal happiness, and be resolved to perform all our duties on earth
faithfully to be worthy of it.
Our first preparation for heaven is in exercising a great purity of
conscience. Our second preparation is in building virtue in our soul.
Our third preparation is in growing into greater union with God.
